THUNDER JEEP!

28 Aug

I listen to music a lot.

Well, pretty much all day long actually. I flip back and forth between radio stations on my daily commute (usually 1 – 1 ½ hours each way) and listen to my iPod or Pandora while sitting at my desk.

I hear lots and lots and lots of songs, and pretty much mess up most of the lyrics when singing along. Honestly, it would be rare for me to actually know the words all the way through a song – even if it’s my favorite song or my favorite band singing it.

Most of the time the words turn into some sort of zoobee zoobee, thanks to my husband. However, I have a few songs that I mishear on purpose simply because I like my version better. I’ve even secretly brainwashed Travis, so now he sings my version too. {insert evil laugh here}

Here are three songs I’ve improved with new lyrics:

Lights by Ellie Goulding
During the breathy part where she sings “lights, lights, lights” over and over, I like to sing “mice” instead… try it, its fun!

Armageddon It by Def Leppard
I don’t know why, but when I couldn’t understand what they said at the chorus I guessed that they were saying “I’m a Girlie Man” instead of what they’re apparently actually saying, “Armgeddon It.” Needless to say, I like my version much better!

Dirty Deeds by AC/DC
Here’s another example of my brain filling in words I couldn’t quite hear… and me liking my version better. “Dirty Deeds Done Dirt Cheap” totally sounds like “Dirty Deeds, THUNDER JEEP!” So much more fun! And obviously if you’re going to be doing dirty deeds, it helps to have a badass Thunder Jeep around.*

Anyways, I have a feeling I’m not the only one out there that does this! What songs do you sing with your own made up lyrics?

* I realized when attaching this video, that it totally isn’t just me on this one – check out deidaraismine4evr’s comment from 6 months ago!

For YEARS whenever I heard “Every Day Is A Winding Road” by Cheryl Crow, I heard “I’ve been swimming in a sea of anarchy, I’ve been living on coffee and lutein.” Lutein is a vitamin that’s good for eye health, so it made sense to me, what with Cheryl Crow being all “I only use two squares of toilet paper.” Turns out it’s “coffee and nicotine.” I like my version better- it promotes vitamins, not smoking. 🙂

Oh my gosh, I LOVE your version. She has another song out that drives me nuts where she talks about “putting on her 45” and I want to know if she’s talking about a record or sunscreen….

I think it’s Sheryl with an S, not a C. I should google before I comment. She looks pretty tan and wants to soak up the sun, so I’m guessing her 45 is a record, not sunblock. Although, if it were me, it WOULD be sunblock. Because I am pale and don’t actually know how to operate a record player. I probably shouldn’t have admitted that publicly. Oh well. Love the post!

Hilarious! Has she brainwashed you into hearing her lyrics when you hear the song?

Hilarious! I was going to say Tiny Dancer too but that is because my bf used to think it was “Hold me closer Tony Danza” !! 🙂

I have to admit that for years, I, too, thought it was “Take your pants off”. Much more exciting version.

I’m totally going to start singing it that way — so much more saucy!

There’s a Buddy Holly song, can’t remember which one, where it goes “it’s so easy to fall in love” and they go “it’s so easy, it’s so easy”. My little sister, who must have been 3 or 4 at the time, one day asked “what’s a whizzy?”. She thought they were singing “it’s a whizzy, it’s a whizzy”

Ooooh, that’s totally another option. I like it! Badass Sheryl is getting ready to soak up some fun and nobody is going to mess with her!

OMG-THunder Jeep–TOO LOL!!!!! There is that old Jimi Hendrix song–‘scuse me while I kiss the sky–I thought it was scuse me while I kiss this guy…..

    • JoulesDellinger August 31, 2012 at 11:05 am #

Wait…what?! He DOESN’T say “scuse me while I kiss this guy” ???? That makes so much more sense than kissing the sky!
